In 1937, after his friends died in a tragic mountaineering accident caused in part by bad footwear, Vitale Bramani launched Vibram to create more functional outsoles. Since then, Vibram has been striving to develop new products for people on their feet. In 2005, the Italian company launched its first line of finished products, FiveFingers, showing how a component manufacturer can become a brand itself.
